Sommer earned a Business Degree from Texas A&M University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Her community commitments include The Junior League of Houston, Ronald McDonald House, Kids Meals of Houston and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She is married and the mother of two children. They reside in the West University area and are members of the West University United Methodist Church.
